Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) has once again earned recognition at the 2026 Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Diktisaintek) Public Relations Awards organized by the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region V Yogyakarta.
UNU Jogja received awards in two categories: First Place in Website Management and First Runner-up in Social Media Management. The top achievement in website management has secured the university's place in the national-level Diktisaintek Public Relations Awards.
The winners were announced during the 2026 Coordination Meeting of Private Higher Education Public Relations Officers hosted by LLDIKTI Region V on Tuesday (June 30). On the occasion, UNU Jogja also received special recognition from LLDIKTI Region V for its significant improvement in digital communication performance.
UNU Jogja's official website, unu-jogja.ac.id, serves as a comprehensive source of information about the university, featuring the latest research and innovations by its academic community, campus developments, and the achievements of lecturers and students. Meanwhile, the university maintains an active presence across major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
Acting Rector of UNU Jogja, Fahmy Akbar Idries, welcomed the university's success at the LLDIKTI Region V Diktisaintek Public Relations Awards. He emphasized that the recognition reflects more than excellence in managing digital platforms—it represents UNU Jogja's commitment to providing accurate, educational, inspiring, and socially beneficial information.
"For UNU Jogja, our website and social media are not merely institutional showcases. They are also channels for academic outreach, disseminating knowledge, innovation, and the values of Aswaja An-Nahdliyah, which form the foundation of the university's development. Through quality digital communication, we want to demonstrate that higher education institutions have a responsibility to strengthen public literacy and contribute solutions to the nation's challenges," he said.
Director of Communications Intan Agisti stated that the awards represent LLDIKTI Region V's recognition of UNU Jogja's website and social media management. More importantly, she said, the achievement demonstrates that dedication, creativity, and collaboration can produce meaningful impact.
"In today's digital era, a university's website and social media are the face of the institution. Through these platforms, the public gains access to information and becomes familiar with UNU Jogja's values. Every piece of information and content we publish carries a significant responsibility to maintain credibility, build public trust, and strengthen the university's reputation," she explained.
Building a Sustainable Public Relations Strategy
During the coordination meeting, themed "Sustainable Public Relations Strategy: Policy Synergy, Media Governance, and Digital Reputation Resilience," Intan also served as one of the keynote speakers, sharing UNU Jogja's best practices in media management and crisis communication based on her experience leading the university's Directorate of Communications.
Before public relations professionals from around 100 private universities under LLDIKTI Region V Yogyakarta, she explained that UNU Jogja positions its official website as the single source of truth and the primary showcase of its academic reputation. At the same time, its social media platforms are designed to foster two-way engagement by involving students, lecturers, and alumni as content creators.
"Universities must also establish transparent relationships with the media, provide academic experts as trusted sources on public issues, and implement an early warning system to anticipate crises and combat misinformation," Intan said.
Meanwhile, the Head of LLDIKTI Region V, Prof. Setyabudi Indartono, explained that the role of public relations in higher education has evolved far beyond publication and administrative functions. Today, he said, public relations plays a strategic role in shaping institutional reputation, managing public opinion, and consistently communicating institutional achievements.
"University public relations offices must be agile, understand changing patterns of information consumption, and develop adaptive communication strategies. Synergy between national policies, media governance, and digital reputation resilience has become an indispensable necessity," he said.
Also speaking at the event, Dinna Handini, Head of the Information, Publication, and Documentation Management Team at Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, discussed the national policy direction on public information disclosure.
"Public relations offices at private universities play a strategic role in supporting the Ministry's priority programs and strengthening the reputation of Indonesian higher education," she concluded. [Arif]
