PBI UNU Jogja Partners with Kampung Inggris Jogja to Expand Students’ Career Opportunities

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The English Education Study Program at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) has established a partnership with Kampung Inggris Jogja through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to strengthen the implementation of the university’s three pillars of higher education while expanding opportunities for students to develop their competencies and careers.

The MoA was signed by Dean of the Faculty of Education Dr. Mustaghfiroh Rahayu and Director of Kampung Inggris Jogja Mujahidin at the UNU Jogja campus on Monday, October 19.

The partnership covers community service, internships and work placements, and student competency development. Both institutions will also explore collaboration in human resource development through seminars and other academic activities in education and innovation.

In her remarks, Mustaghfiroh encouraged the English Education Study Program to make the most of the partnership as a means of developing learning opportunities that align with students’ needs. Collaboration with external partners is expected to broaden students’ experiences and provide greater insight into how English language skills can be applied in the workplace.

She also emphasized the importance of translating the MoA into concrete programs. The partnership, she noted, has the potential to strengthen the implementation of the three pillars of higher education while supporting human resource development.

Head of the English Education Study Program, Khusnul Harsul Lisan, explained that introducing students to Kampung Inggris Jogja was part of an effort to broaden their career perspectives beyond the university environment. English language skills, she said, can be applied not only in classroom instruction but also in the education business and educational services sectors.

She added that the collaboration between UNU Jogja’s English Education Study Program and Kampung Inggris Jogja had begun before the MoA was signed. Previous initiatives included sending students to Kampung Inggris Jogja for internships as mentors and jointly organizing the English for Holiday program at the UNU Jogja campus.

“Previously, we sent four students there to gain practical experience as mentors. We had also collaborated on organizing the English for Holiday program,” she said.

Khusnul expressed hope that the partnership would strengthen the connection between academic learning and practical experience, equipping students with a broader range of skills and experience to enter the workforce or pursue careers in education.

Director of Kampung Inggris Jogja Mujahidin welcomed the partnership. He expressed hope that the collaboration would continue to develop through programs that benefit both institutions, particularly by enhancing students’ competencies and expanding their practical experience in English language education.

Following the MoA signing, the event continued with a public lecture titled “Engineering the Aura: Educating with a Distinct Idea,” featuring Maulana Husien, M.S. Hum., from Kampung Inggris Jogja.
