Yogyakarta, Indonesia — Acting Rector of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), Dr. Fahmy Akbar Idries, held a dialogue with administrative staff to gather feedback and strengthen coordination in support of the university’s performance on Thursday, October 22. The meeting provided a platform for university leadership and staff to share input and identify opportunities to improve day-to-day operations.
The dialogue was attended by approximately 68 administrative staff members and covered professionalism, competency development, and various workplace needs. It also gave university leadership an opportunity to hear about staff members’ experiences in carrying out their responsibilities and providing services to the university community.
During the discussion, Fahmy emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline, and accountability at work. The meeting also provided an opportunity for university leadership to hear directly from staff about their experiences, including their needs and suggestions for workplace improvements.
He noted that improving the quality of university services requires each individual to fulfill their role responsibly, supported by strong coordination across all university units.
“We want to build an increasingly professional work environment. Everyone has an important role, and we need to value each person’s contribution. That is why communication like this matters, so we can understand one another and find ways to work better together,” Fahmy said.
Several staff members shared feedback related to their respective areas of responsibility. Istiana from the University Library Unit, for example, raised the importance of increasing the use of Turnitin, a service provided by the university. She highlighted the need for greater outreach and a better understanding of the service to help students and lecturers make optimal use of it.
Meanwhile, Artha from the Directorate of Social Laboratory Affairs offered suggestions regarding career development and opportunities for administrative staff to participate in professional training. The feedback highlighted the importance of competency development in strengthening staff capacity and work quality.
Representing the university’s mosque affairs division, Udin Kusuma expressed hope that Qur’an recitation sessions after the midday (Dhuhr) prayer and congregational prayers would continue to receive collective support. These activities are part of efforts to nurture religious life on campus.
Fahmy listened to the feedback and gathered the suggestions for further consideration. Through this dialogue, UNU Jogja seeks to strengthen two-way communication between university leadership and administrative staff while fostering a professional, collaborative work culture that remains open to improvement and innovation.
