UNU Jogja Students Pass P2MW Selection and Join KMI Expo XVII 2026

Yogyakarta, Indonesia - Three students from the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies Program at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) have successfully passed the selection for the Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW) and qualified as participants in the 17th Indonesian Student Entrepreneurship Expo (KMI Expo XVII) 2026. Organized by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs under the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the programs provide a platform for student entrepreneurship development through business funding support and business development mentoring.

The three students are Arifin Kurnia Setiatama, Fitria Ainur Rohmah, and Ahmad Murtaqiy Hanif Muwaffaq. They developed a business idea titled “Development of a Free-Range Duck Egg Farming Business Using Alternative Feed and Waste Utilization.”

Through this initiative, the team produces fresh duck eggs under the brand Golden Egg while implementing a resource utilization cycle throughout the production process.

Arifin Kurnia Setiatama explained that Golden Egg applies a sustainable farming system using a colony cage-free concept, in which ducks are raised in groups in an area that allows them to move more freely and engage in natural activities.

“The system we apply is one of our efforts to create a more comfortable environment for the ducks while supporting their productivity,” he explained on Monday, September 14.

The production process also applies a zero-waste concept by utilizing duck manure as organic fertilizer. The fertilizer is then used to support plant growth, including azolla, which is being developed as an alternative feed source for the ducks.

The team also cultivates Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae as an alternative source of protein for duck feed. The larvae are cultivated using organic materials, such as leftover azolla and fruit and vegetable waste that is no longer suitable for consumption.

“The maggot cultivation is our effort to optimize alternative feed resources available around the business,” he said.

Through these processes, Golden Egg has established a resource utilization cycle. The ducks produce eggs as the main product and manure as a by-product.

The manure is then processed into organic fertilizer to support azolla cultivation. The azolla can subsequently be used as part of the duck feed and as one of the materials for maggot cultivation.

Meanwhile, organic waste such as leftover azolla, vegetables, and fruits can be used for maggot cultivation. The maggots are then utilized as a source of protein in duck feed. Through this cycle, Golden Egg seeks to reduce waste while increasing the value and usefulness of available resources.

The team's innovation extends beyond the production process. To increase the economic value of its products, the team has developed Golden Egg into several product variants, including salted eggs and spiced salted eggs.

“Developing processed products is our strategy to expand the market while increasing the economic value of our farm products,” Arifin said.

A lecturer from the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies Program who also serves as the team's supervisor expressed appreciation for the students' innovation. According to him, one of Golden Egg's strengths lies in its local and sustainable supply chain approach. Resources available around the farm are utilized and reused wherever possible to reduce dependence on external resources.

“This concept makes Golden Egg more than just an egg production business. It is a farming business model that integrates egg production, waste utilization, alternative feed, product processing, and marketing into a single system,” he said.

He added that the development of Golden Egg demonstrates that students have opportunities to develop entrepreneurial skills and competencies beyond their academic disciplines.
